I dont have any scientific data, lol, but some days when I'm out almost 1/3 of the crappie anglers I see are on pontoons.

Pontoons are popular for crappie fishing on Joe Pool. That could be due to most crappie fishermen I see on Joe Pool are old men. :) I fish from a pontoon for crappie, quit chasing bass years ago when Bass Master made bass fishing popular and all the fools started fishing for bass.
I crappie fish from a pontoon for several reasons #1 so much room for being organized and not confined to a seat#2 being able to put a big group of people on the boat makes for an interesting day on the water#3 with today’s electronics and trolling motors I can easily control the boat in a moderate wind and stay on spots pretty easily while being comfortable, I find the older I get the more comfortable I am fishing the longer I can stay out without getting burned out
far as I'm concerned a pontoon is tops for fishing for about anything if you set it up right..not all cramped up great for all day fishing trips.
Wish my Pondtoon had JATO assist on occasions.

I live on a lake and since my pontoon is always in the water, I fish from it because it's easy. I do have a small boat for fishing other lakes.
Cane Pole , what is JATO

Here is pics of what I have set up on inside of boat, no actual boat pics as its just a generic 2001 Bass Tracker Bass Buggy.
Lowrance HDS 7 Touch up front, Hummingbird Helix-9 DI on console, battey/charger in front left storage box for the HDS 7 and Black Lights mounted along side of boat..
Cornfield Crappie Gear rod holders.
Also has a LSS2 SI /down imaging transducer mounted on a pole that I can put out front side of boat if wanted.. I usually just use the 2D sonar transducer on XI5 as its a pain pulling the other in/out every time I move.
3 bank charger under back seat with starter battery and 2 batteries for 12vlt trolling motor..Spider loc mounting brackets on front of boat and a couple along side rails/also have spider loc rail mounts so I can troll/catfish off of rails in any position, forgot to take pics of them.. Also a cheap lockable truck tool box that has all my boxes of jigs/lures, fillet knife, registration, extra batteries for remote, rags etc in it.
Motorguide XI5 55# w/GPS and pinpoint etc.
Trolling motor does a excellent of job of holding boat even in a 15 mph wind..
Boat has a 2002 70 hp Johnson/Suzuki 4 stroke that purrs like a kitten, if you mess with throttle enough you can get it to troll at about 1.8mph.
more pics
Nice set up dbowling

I picked up a Bennington fish model 22 ft.. has 4 fishing seats. It works out great with the kids in the boat, has trolling motor and all the comforts the kids need... radio, potty, shade, etc... We've been using it more lately, but I have a 22ft bay boat that's the fishing machine
Nice setup [emoji106]

Momma wants one whith a hard top, bathroom, and netting all around...Might as well add the TV in thier too. OH yea, better put up walls and add a refidgeration system to, like for hanging meat, as she don't like the heat. Drives up north a lot in winter and gets out of truck to fuel, swap trailers and such in a long sleeve denim shirt, unlined, no jacket...me I'm bundled up like I'm in the north pole...
i have been wanting to get a mini-pontoon for a good while...like one of the other commentors said , i live right by a slew and i would leave it tied up most of the time instead of dragging my jon-boat in and out.
I fished out of a 22 foot bennington for a few years. Great for striper and crappie. I had Gene make me two mounts for the rear rails so I could mount two of his spyderloks for pulling jigs or alabama rigs from the rear. Had a remote v2 trolling motor up front and a hook nine at the console. I had two buckets with drilled holes for pulling cranks. 2.4 mph idle perfect for stripers, through out the buckets and down to 1.6-1.7 perfect for pulling cranks. Worked perfect but moved off the lake and it was a pain to pull to different lakes especially if they were a few hours away.Attachment 352553Attachment 352554Attachment 352555
Cane Pole, I remember several years ago, one of the winners of a Darwin Award(stupidest way to die) used a JATO, I thought it was spelled JADO. He strapped 2 of those to, I think, a 1964 Chevy Impala. He was going down one of those desert highways out west. He left the road with the brakes fully pushed in, with black marks like 1/8 of mile long and they just stopped and the officials found him squished high on a rock bluff. Car and all.
I am very envious, wish I had a similar set up.
I've got a 22 ft bennington 4 point I picked up a few months ago ... I'm still waiting for millennium to make the square rail mount available so I can switch over my spyderloks (hint hint) like cwright. I really like the pontoon since I have two kids and the wife (potty comes in handy). Trolling motor up front, has a cheap finder currently but I'll put a Helix 7 DI on it I have lying around.. Shade, radio, room, 2 livewells, just makes it easier to fish sometime I also have a 12 v fan I bring if its hot. Cold they can bring a blanket and curl up on the bench while we fish.
If it's just me and one daughter or a buddy we take the bay boat out...
Orion if you pm Gene (on here as ez poleholder I think) he will probably make you the mounts like I had. They work great. Never have anything except spyderloks on my boats.
I would think the wind would cause more problems than anything. Fishing and loading on a trailer. I have problems holding a 20' glass Triton sometimes in the spring due to the wind.
Mine is an older boat late 70's just the kind I like (Paid For) :biggrin... I've bout got it set they way I want but still got a few more things to add like some light and things. Got the hard top + electric bimini top, privacy room. I pulled all the old furniture and gave me more seating room options I'm really found of my winter time fishing hatches that I put in the floor, just throw the Ice Hut on board and were ready to go all year. The only negative for my particular boat is it's a little slow top speed on a good day is 15-17 but it's pushing a 28 footer so if I ever upgrade the engine it would take care of that.

Mine had the platform out front like yours but I bought railings so my poles would be closer to the front
fishing hatches in the floor. What a unique idea. I could only one in the floor of mine, it is only a 20 fter. Electric bimini top? I'm jealous. My top is worn, I was thinking about replacing it with 1/2 enclosure. Now maybe I need to think electric since it will fold part way back and provide a sun shield.
I would if I lived on a lake. Under a canopy you'd stay cooler and you'd be up high so you could see good. Only con would be slower moving around and you couldn't lip the bass.
Since my boat has the hard top in back I put it on the front turned backwords it is really nice to drop down halfway and block the sun.
