I have a new Garmin Echo 73sv. Where is the best place to mount transducer? I have read both transom and on trolling motor. If I mount on trolling motor how do I protect the transducer? Thanks for your advice.

In my opinion if you have a transom then that is the best place to put the transducer. The less movement the less problems you will have to troubleshoot on the water and you always know where it is located to throw a marker out.
I like to have my TM able to move on spot lock and not change any views of the ducer. Also if you want to add a Livescope later you can make a simple over the side mount to be able to rotate it by hand to see in the water.
I have a jon boat and mounted my ducer on the transom. On my kayak I have it in the middle in a retractable plate to protect when moving or beaching. I use my Livescope on an arm I put down when I am ready to use it. I have the 74SV.
Thanks for your help. I think I will my 63cv to bow and put the 73sv on the transom.
A trolling motor mount suits my style of fishing better, single pole jigging off of the bow, most of the time. I like being able to see directly what's under (and including) my bait, so this works well since my trolling motor is also on the bow.
The trolling motor skeg will protect the transducer.
If you fish off of the back or sides of the boat, and don't have bow trolling motor, a transom mount might work better.
Of course having both is the best setup IMO.
