Won crappie tournament 6/09/19
Dr Phil Gawthrop and I were fortunate enough to win the 3rd crappie tournament that the Chattanooga crappie club had today. I had not fished since the weather changed when the rain and storms began on Thursday and I was just going to guess what the fish might be doing.
I had been on big fish throughout the month of May, so any drastic weather change could have been bad for us, but the fish were there in very good numbers and size this morning early.
First cast was at 6:20 and we had a 7 fish limit in twelve minutes. By 7 am, we had 8 fish over 13”. Three were 13.75” each. Total weight for the 7 was 8.51 lbs. Our big struggle was to keep the fish alive until the 2 pm weigh-in time.
I retired from tournament fishing two years ago years ago because it was interfering with my fishing for other species and I will admit, I enjoyed the win today very much. Next tournament is in September, so I have time to rest up and spend time with family and stuff like that. I usually don’t fish as much during the hot summer months.
Only took a couple of pics. Water temp at the beginning was 75+ and 19,000 cfs flow. Blue Dauber Minnow Mind’R was the hot lure with Lights Out Slab Slayer running a close second.
