I Need Someone to Burn Me a Spot!

And it is not about your favorite "secret spot" for catching. My dad brought me up proper. He told me if anyone asks you where you caught them point to the roof of your mouth and say AAAHHH!

Where in western Pa can a person find a good selection of panfishing gear? Especially looking at fishing rods. Personally I need to shake them before I commit so online is out. Last rod I ordered online was delivered with fork truck tire prints on the kinked cardboard tube. It was a Shakespeare Ugly Stick and it survived! Only reason I ordered online is it was a duplicate model to one I already had. Fish USA in Erie is about as good as it get's close to me but they lean more to the big lake. I've been in Field & Stream many times looking for something and came out empty handed. What we need is a good old fashion (pre-Cabelas buyout) 1990 version of the Bass Pro Shop less than 2 hrs. away.

Sometimes you might be surprised what you find in Wal-Mart. Is there a Dicks Sporting Goods near you? Really don't know what else I could suggest. Have you tried checking out the different Mom & Pop Stores that sponsor in the NWPA Report, written by Darl Black? That might be a place to check out, lots of them that give reports. Hope this might help you.

Thanks.....I'll try Dick's Sporting Goods in Erie & Darl Black's report. Gander Mt in Erie used to have a pretty good variety of rods on the rack. You could shake them without bothering anyone. Unfortunately they are kaput. I got to go into Meadville Wal-Mart soon as I need a new deep cycle battery. Already did Edinboro without any luck. I'll give Meadville a try as it is only a couple miles away.

Dicks doesn’t carry a whole lot anymore, field and stream is a lot better with better selections. I didn’t have a lot to spend on rods when I purchased mine and I ended up with zebco crappie fighters from Walmart. I changed out the line and absolutely love the rods, I typically use them for casting and I use a 10’6” noodle rod for floating corks and fishing downed trees on top of the water. It worked for me and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg since I could use them for other fishing. Field and stream also carries BObby Garland plastics, and they ALWAYS price match fish USA. Don’t forget the price match it saves me 100’s in fishing gear throughout the year.

I've got a few noodle rods rigged up for long lining some jigs later in the summer. They are a few composite/glass cheapies used steelheading. Used the cheap rods gearing up friends and relatives that visited to do the steelhead thing years ago. My 10' graphite noodle is intended to be used exactly the way you use yours. Hope the cheap noodles are not too soft for pulling jigs up to 1/8 oz. Field & Stream is where I got some of my plastic a few years ago. I was in F&S earlier in the spring shaking rods and found nothing reasonably priced. I am nuts about fishing tackle but $200-300 for St Croix or the Loomis stuff is not in the budget. My wife has never complained but I am too old to start sleeping in the garage.

I hear you, on too old to sleep in garage, but here it would be in a carport, lol. What about Meadville, and even Greenville, if your coming down to fish, in the area. Have seen some Shakespear stuff in Greenville before.

41 years ago I taught her how to shoot. She got very good at it especially trap shooting. I don't press my luck. Personally I like Shakespeare rods. They are not perfect but they have their places. I've used and abused Ugly Stiks trolling cranks for walleye with no problems. Best thing is you don't have to take a second mortgage out on the house. I am not a believer that every fishing rod needs to be high modulus graphite or some genetically engineered carbon fiber. I'd really like to shake their 9' crappie rod.

I bought a couple Shakespeare
Crappie Hunter rods from Fish USA and they are great rods. They are 9ft two piece rods,fast tip and good back bone. Great for jigging and drifting.

If you’re down at the Pymatuning lake area, stop in at the duck and drake baitshop on the Ohio side, just south of the causeway. They have a great selection of crappie rods. Bought a couple Sam Heaton’s there last fall.

Stopped in D&D this afternoon. Nice lady helped me and I picked a couple BnM trolling rods, some nibbles and a couple cold drinks. Piggy bank is empty now. Thanks chaunc for burning me the spot!

Just a note. Lady said they had a bunch of crappie rods in the back room and would order about anything you want. Take about a week to come in if the supplier has it in stock.
