what size fuse should i use between batterie and my ipilot?
Depends on what size trolling motor that you have.
Between trolling motor and battery, use a 60 amp breaker. Preferably one you can reset.
60 amp if you are using 6 gauge wire.
Depends on the model, not the wiring.
This is what Minn Kota recommends as far as breaker size and wiring size. https://www.minnkotamotors.com/sites...le_1-22-19.pdf
I can assure you if you wire up a 70pd with 6 gauge wire and a 60a breaker you will overheat and burn up your motor if you get a high amp draw.
A breaker on a TM is not to protect people!!! Its to protect the motor from an over amp draw due to bent prop, bent pin in prop, line in prop, etc.
A 60a where a 50a is required will stop a short and a fire, but will burn up your motor on a high amp draw.
And so you know, not following minnkotas wiring diagrams will void your warranty (says so in the fine print in your manual). So go ahead and put a 60a on any size, if it requires a lesser breaker and you fry your motor then you are only out $1600. Definitely just use a 60A........
I used the bussman 60 amp resetable breaker mounted as close to the battery as possible.Somewhere around 40 bucks.
Check the manual/information that came with the trolling motor, if you don't have it, then download it from the Minn Kota website.
Wire gauge, wire length, trolling motor model, etc. all play a role in the fuse selection. You need to follow the Minn Kota information word for word if you want your warranty to stay intact. Minn Kota even makes breakers and probably not a bad idea to use one of theirs, that's what I did.
If you're using a plug/socket, you might want to take a moment and make sure you have one of the right size as well, there are quite a few on the market that are on the small side and will easily melt.
