wanting to make my own crappie rods help

i am wanting to get started making my own 8 foot and 10 foot crappie rods looking to start out with a cheep 8 foot 2 piece blank with cork handle any help would be great thanks

lets start with what are you going to use the rod for like casting or vertical jigging and go from there.
Second do you know what tools you will need to get started or need some help picking out just what you'll need to see if you like the hobby with out dropping a lot of money in it.

i will be vertical jigging mostly and will need the tools that would be best to have to do the job

I would look at a place like mudhole.com. You can look at about anything for a rod there.

things you will need

hand wrapper station. Doesnt have to be nice or expensive to learn with.

flex coat (put over the guides) and flex coat rod builders glue or the pro paste (to build the handle) to start you can get the single build kits.

thread(I would start with Fuji NOCP in size D, its easy to learn with and will not change the color when you put the epoxy on it.
blank guides handle This is completely what ever you want to do.

Your going to need a few razors and a burnishing tool( you can use a old tooth brush handle works just fine)
and a heat source to get air bubbles out of the flex coat. a lighter it is not the best thing to use but it will work. If you have a alcohol burner that's probably the best

Get on youtube and watch how to build a rod, and copy them. Its like anything its hard to get things right when you start. The first few will look plain and boring but with each one you will learn and after each one you will start to try new things.

For me, If you are looking for a lightweight, longer rod for vertical jigging light rigs or casting slip floats, the Matrix fly blanks from American tackle are great blanks that won't break the bank.

U might also look at the get bit speckled perch blank, I think they have them in 10 or 12 foot. I wouldn't say they are light weight per say but they are affordable and pretty sensitive with good backbone. I will also say I'd not recommend jumping right into a "long" rod maybe look into one of the mudhole turnkey kits to get a little taste of what u will be getting into.

As dirtrider said if you do any casting starting with a kit like this would help you get everything you need. Would be a great start so you don’t have to try and pick out everything until you have a understanding of the parts.

That's the exact kit I started with, still use most of what it came with for the rods I build now. And the rod is pretty darn nice too
