Living several hours away and loving to fish Rend, it's nice to see your post!! It would also be nice for the guides on Rend Lake to weigh in on the progress or lack of the spawn on the lake.
They see and clean fish on a daily basis and could inform the members of crappie.com as to the progress on the lake.
I fished Crab Orchard yesterday and can tell you that the fish we kept were primarily all males and not very far from the bank in about 3 or 4 feet of water and I don't believe that they spawned there yet!!!
IMO doubtful guides would tell you if spawn going on as that's when you don't need them at all. it's confusing time for all lakes in midwest now. we were at truman this weekend and my home lakes of T hill and LSL that some came to banks but rains and cold fronts drove them off and they are as confused as we are.
I was planning to go to Rend yesterday as well until my son's Saturday baseball tournament got rescheduled to Sunday. Glad you caught some! How was the water clarity?
Mean Green 2 is on here a fair amount giving updates on where they're at. The report from last week was that there were a fair number up in the bushes and some still out in a bit deeper water.
Maybe I can get a day off to get over there or maybe try Crab if Rend turns chocolate.
Was the lake up a bunch?

I went across the lake yesterday and it looked like it was up and color was really dirty.
I got a 2 person limit at Shelbyville yesterday plus a bunch of 9 1/2 " females. All 9-12 feet of water. Only 1 good fish in less than 9'. All females full of eggs. low 60 water temps
I fished Rend for 3 hours Sun morning and ended up with 12 crappie, a redear, a bass and a couple cats all caught in the brush. Didn't fish any brush in the bays, only that close to the main open water areas with deeper water nearby. Caught 5 of the 12 off of one bush so it should continue to get better. It's going to be one of those years where you never know what's coming out of that bush you are fishing because several species are going to be looking t spawn. Water was stained but I've seen alto worse. We could see our jigs down about 2 feet probably because we weren't back in the bays where the runoff was still entering the lake... Worth the 2 hour drive but no bummed that it will be a couple seeks before I can get back.
Was there Fished sSunday Monday And Tuesday . We started off Sunday like we usually do in May in the Bushes But it was slow only a couple on Sunday we fished GunCreek . We decided to change it up on Monday we Pushed Crankbaits around the North side of the 154 bridge we picked up 8 or 10 overs then it slowed so we switched it up to spider rigging with minnows all around the154 bridge near Guncreek finished the day with 23 total with 13 overs the biggest being 1lb 3oz all were female with eggs in 15 to 23 feet of water. Tuesday we went back to spiderrigging all around the bridge and the east side of gun creek ended up with 29 with 12 overs and 6lb cat and a 2lb cat. Fishing on both days always picked up around 6:00pm. It was a lot tougher this year than in the past but we found them and got to get a start on filling the freezer. Good luck to all.
