spider rig question
gonna start fishing the marben pfa and got me a jon boat . im setting it up to spider rig of the front of the boat. ive read a lot about (probably not enough) and know to keep boat slow. my question is how do you get boat to go that slow and how do you know how fast your going?
Thanks

My fish finder has a speed reading on it and I also use a GPS handheld that shows speed. My handheld has years worth of spots saved on it is the reason i keep using it in addition to fish finder .
If wind will not let you go slow enough use a wind sock or drag.

Slow to me when I spider rigged was to cut the tm on long enough to get the boat moving then shut it off and drift until the boat completely stopped moving. Then cut it on again, off again, etc.
To be more specific to your question.....a lot of us use a tm which has I-pilot. Th remote keeps you at a speed by setting it on "cruise control". Others use their GPS built into their depth finders and have it mounted on the front of the boat with the transducer mounted onto the tm shaft. All that aint necessary but it's nice to have.

Use settings to turn on the Blocks for Depth, Temp, speed and GPS if you save Waypoints

Without anything necessary for telling you what your speed is .... just go fast/slow enough to keep moving forward with the boat, but also keeping your lines as straight down (vertical) as possible. Normally, weights of 1/2oz - 3/4oz should be enough to keep your lines straight down at Spider Rigging speed. I consider that speed to be anything less than 0.4mph ... but others may have a different opinion.
