bucket list checkoff
i know this is a crappie fishing site but i wanted to post a question. i'm from ms and i have always wanted to catch a smallmouth bass, got an opportunity to go to tablerock july 8-12. at that time of year how would you go after em deepor shallow. want be keeping anything. just going fishing. thanks.

In july they will be pretty shallow early and move deeper as the sun gets up. I'd start on chunk rock banks throwing medium running crank baits

Drop shot is always good that time of year also.

Swimming a grub is a good way to get bit year round on the Rock. Especially if you are in the Indian Point area. Might get into a mess of goggleyes. Great eating fish!

Lower end of the lake has always done me good. Go early and don't be afraid to throw the ned rig if conditions allow.

The Rock is not a small mouth lake. Mostly spotted bass. Though I have caught a few small mouth fishing tournaments.
You would do better going up to Stockton. An easy run up from The Rock and more small mouth. A jig and a pumpkin Yamamoto Hula Grub, spinning rig, 8 lb. line.
