Out of state transplant looking for some advice!

Hey guys I'm new here to the forums and to Maryland. We moved up here 2 years ago and i didn't get to fish much my first year up here because i had a lot of stuff going on and i didn't know where to go. Which brings me to my first question; where can i find some fish? I love crappie fishing, which is why I'm here lol, but I'm looking for everything honestly. I just moved here from Kansas where i knew a lot of spots because of my dad but now I'm completely on my own fishing wise. I'm currently living in the towson area so im totally out of my element compared to kansas haha!

So basically to sum up:
New to the state need some help
I live in towson but don't mind driving to much, not like 2-3 hours one way if i can help it.
Where/when can i find some good crappie spots?
any advice on other species of fish? I would really love to get a snakehead since we didnt have those where i came from.
No boat so its all shore fishing for me unless i want to rent a boat from loch raven? don't know anything about that lake.
Any and all fishing advice for this area would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the land of pleasant living....LR is a good place to start. They are fishing now for crappie off the #2 (D. Valley) bridge. Some special techniques for this but they get some. In spring they can be caught from shore with bobbers, minnows ,shad darts etc. around shallow structure....wood is good. Later spring if you rent a boat, you can troll or cast new weed growth with crappie spinner baits. Tough to find them in summer. Be prepared for pickerel as they are common in the Loch.

Tidal crappie are caught from shore at martins lagoon and Joppatown. Eastern Shore rivers all have good crappie and some shore access is available. A gentleman... Andy who posts here has them dialed in from shore down there.

Thanks for the info! I've been to loch raven a few times to walk some of the trails around that area with my dog. I think the bridge your talking about is the one i park by, just on the west side of the bridge. I went fish there once last year and didn't even see a fish along the shore, I don't know if the shores are just over fished or I just had bad luck.

What about prettyboy? I have a coworker that lives up around that area and told me about that lake and again I took the dog up there to kinda walk around but I didn't get a chance to go fishing there, is it a good shore fishing lake or would I really need a boat?

I've been think and I think I'll have to rent one of the boats at loch raven at least once this spring, I hope it'll be worth it!

Tidal Potomac is best imo . I've fished the Loch and Liberty for 50 years. There in there not as many as before white perch and pickeral were illegally stocked but still enough.

If I was you I would attend one of the Pasadena fishing club meetings and join the club. Lots of great guys and gals belong to the club and you can talk personally with them about fishing and spots.

The fishing is about to break on the Eastern Shore for everyone when this water clears up from all the darn rain. Since you live in Towson, If you cast a Texas Rigged 7" purple worm along the shores of Lock Raven, and Pretty Boy, or any lake or pond in your area maybe now, but for starting in march, April, May. I use it all year and do pretty good. Been using it forever. In case you don't know, this is what it looks like.
