I just ordered a new rod from Southern crappie rods. I got one of the 8ft 1/16 Oz rods. What reel would you guys pair with this rod. I'm looking for a wider spool of course. Thanks

Can you cast a 1/16 oz with the crappie max.
I have probably 20 of the crappie max spinning reels. Some in the 500 size and some in the 1000 size and I’ve had good luck with them. For the money they are a great reel.

I'll be looking at the crappie Maxx for sure
Take a serious look at the Pflueger #6920 President. Great little reel. I have 4 now, two of which I've had in hard use for over 3 seasons with no problems, no worries. Good price to at around $50.00. About as bullet proof as it gets in this price range. JMO. :)
I totally agree with Crestliner. I think the Presidents are the best bang for the buck out there. Reel is smooth as silk.
I found a size 30 or 35, Lady President for like $20 last year. Got the last one....Of course it's pink and I take loads of crap for it, so I don't let anyone touch it...:Rofl
I love the pfluegers and my opinion here but my trions feel smoother than the last few presidents I’ve picked up. I was going to buy a president until I picked up a Daiwa revros and RG-AB. I bought one dad bought the other. Very nice for same $ as the President.
I use Lew's Mr. Crappie Slab Shaker's: $15 each here from one of our sponsors.....Lew's Mr. Crappie Slab Shaker Spinning Reel : FishUSA I think they are great and problem free. With 6lb test Mr Crappie line on them too. Super price. Don't forget to remove the spool and soak the line in water for a couple days (like Richard Gene recommends), it'll take all the coil out.
