I too am about to pull the plug and buy a tm with the anchor feature. After doing much research I decided that MG evidently was the best, at least for that feature. But then I went yesterday to ask a tm repair guy his thoughts. You see about a year ago he had told me that MK was way ahead of the game. Yesterday I reminded him of that statement. He then proceeded to tell me the MG was still behind MK, but then he added that MG are so complex in design that it is not only difficult to keep them running, but they are usually a bear to repair. Decided the question for me!
Check out bassboatcentral.com. Looks like Ultrex hands down is the popular one. All the Dealers constantly pushing Ultrex on sales to those guys in that forum.
I use an Ultrex and it's all I will ever need. Only 4mos old so it's the newer version. As many will attest, if there is at least a small amount of wind or current it will hold you where you set it. I couldn't be more pleased.
my XI5 even in a fairly strong wind keeps me right where I anchor and this is with a 18 ft pontoon boat, no complaints what so ever other then the foot pedal sucks as far as I'm concerned.. never use it anyway though.
I use motorguide buddy has the ultrex and his isn't as stable and it noisier than the xi5..personal choice I guess
Have the MK 80lb thrust on 20 ft Express
Love the unit over 1 year no issues
Retired and live on the lake. I fish many days a week. The remote works fantastic as well
