Lets say a just is pulling an 1/8th oz jig with a 1/4 oz trailing weight. Roughly, how much line out will keep the setup around 15' deep at 1 mph? 20' or more?

Andy .... last time I Pushed 1/8oz jigs at ~1mph, it was with 1oz weights .... we let out 20-25' of line and never hit bottom in 17fow. Your rig totals only 3/8oz, so I'm figuring you'll have to let out a lot more than 20' of line at that speed (or else use a heavier weight). :twocentsQuote:

I'm sure no expert but that chart has not proven accurate for me. If I can figure out how to do it, and it may require a "follow" boat, I'm going to get some hard numbers to go by.

Still don't think he's gonna get that depth, at that speed, with only that amount of line out & that amount of weight on the line. He's either gonna have to slow down or use a bigger weight.
He can "approximate" his depth .... "IF" his lines are at a 45deg angle ... by multiplying the length of line out by 0.6 (20ft of line out would put the jig at ~12ft deep). Even then he'd have to let out 25ft of line to get to his 15ft target depth, and I doubt his lines are at a 45deg angle with 3/8oz of total weight @ 1mph.
Saturday I had a 1/2 oz bullet weight, then a swivel, then a 3 foot leader with 2, 1/16 ounce jigs with curl tail bodies. 20-24 feet of line was getting mine about 10'-12' deep at 1.5 mph. That is, if I remember correctly. I've slept 3 times since then. If Slabprowler remembers how much line I had out, maybe he'll chime in.
