A Satisfying Morning on the Water
Three casts and stuck on a rock. Darn. Wait! The "rock" leaped a foot out of the water and turned out to be a 15" smallie.
This morning's goal was to test a 6'6" L Shakespeare Micro Series rod with a bison Trout Magnet and 2 lb Stren Crappie Mono line .015mm to see how it would cast the TM and catch a few bluegill on it. The SMB wasn't huge but put up a good aerial fight and fortunately I had the drag set light with that line. Not the best rod for that line but I was just curious to see. This is my first year of experimenting with 2 lb line. After that I picked up a dozen bluegill on it including a season best 9". Not big, but the reservoir I fish (from the bank) is right in town and heavily pressured by boat and kayak anglers.
It was a steamy morning for Central Ohio and I only fished for an hour. Could have caught more BG but that particular spot is one of my favorites and I try to be respectful by not overfishing it.
A quick litter pickup and I headed home, grateful for a nice catch.
