The world record for white crappie is 5 lb 3 oz. The world record for black crappie is 5 lb 0 oz. This would be a new world record if it officially weighs in at 5.25, which is 5 lb 4 oz. Unless it was caught in private waters. Big fish though. This is what dreams are made of!!!
W O W !!!
6lbs is the Louisiana record.
3.8 on whites and 3.84 on black

That's because they threw the old records away and separated them into black and white categories.

PawPaw,
My late friend Kaizer Dupre, a commercial fisherman out of Butte la Rose, caught one that weighed 8lb. 1oz. in 1956 ( being a commercial fisherman, his scale was pretty accurate). He caught it in the Atchafalaya River below the cutoff (at Butte la Rose), but unfortunately it was caught in a hoop net and had to be released. I met him on the river and he showed it to me. Neither of us had a camera so, as far as I know, there is no permanent record of it. I just wanted to share with you how big they become.
I've talked to several commercial fishing hoop nets in the Mississippi and they tell me of huge crappie that they catch and have to throw back. I can't say that I seen any but when they tell me of 4 pound plus crappie I believe them.
