How BIG is to BIG?
Working on making several fish attractors these next few weeks, and knowing I could fill quite a larger area with them I'm wondering what size I should keep each area? My boat is 28ft. but we only fish from the side of the front half so I'm thinking of setting up a rectangle about 16ft. x 6ft. using about 15 attractors place 1 on a grid at 3' x 4' apart kind of looking at my ceiling tiles which are 2' x 4' for inspiration, this would put a column of 3 going away from the boat and 5 running along the side of the boat. I could keep adding and make the total area much bigger but thinking that would just spread the fish out more and be less likely to catch em???

Personally I don't think there is no such thing as too big of fish habitat. Now I would say that you are better off to have several different places. With habitat fish (mainly crappie) are some what like nomads they wonder from place to place. So just because they are on this habitat today does not mean they will be there tomorrow. I like to have several different places to try when the fishing gets tough.:twocents

a large area would be great for spider rigging and /or long lining,my two pennies worth

My favorite thought is to begin on a descending point at about 10' with a bundle or two of bamboo laying on the flat side and working your way down the point about every 3 or 4 feet down to about 25, if depth allows. The fish could just move up and down as the seasons changed. Bigger is better, and a few smaller ones off to the side in case your favorite is occupied when you arrive could save the day.

I like to sink several small piles in a row about 75 to 100' apart over one big one .
-
have heard of persons basically sinking entire small trees using several dozen cement blocks strategically placed to securely pin it down.
-
I know a few guides that sink some monster piles and I know corp piles are huge
I love a big pile myself as it allows me to not move much and have lots of cover right under me on all sides of the boat
small piles lots of times hold fewer numbers and larger fish ,but I want numbers when I drop my jig
lots of bites makes me happy …..depends I guess on what your strategy is I suppose ….
tournament folks want big fish ….
freezer fillers want lots a fish....
