Sure are tricky little devils ( pic heavy )
Dropped down to visit one of my favorite winter lunch break spots Monday . Thought I was going to whoop them pretty good . Tried a little larger bait and NOTHING ! Tried a little smaller bait and again NOTHING ! I had my depth set where it has been good and tried several different presentations , Still NOTHING ? So I decided to go a foot deeper knowing full well I was likely to get hung up in the cover , but one must try don't ya know ....
Well all the sudden the float goes down and I found me a potato chip crappie :Rofl
and then another and then the size got better . Then it dawned on me , they are here in numbers and I went a bit deeper , but the presentation wasn't just right and I struggled a bit . Got frustrated and decided to jig the living you know what out of it and began popping my float like a sand bass fisherman . Then by golly it turned into the ketchn show and a lip ripping to beat the band adventure ensued . All the fish were released and I was all alone down there .
So if you are without electronics and are pretty sure there are crappie to be had don't be afraid to go right out of the box on presentations , the shad were there in numbers getting blown up on the surface in lots of spots and I suppose the crappie wanted a FRANTIC bait ? probably landed at least 50 fish in an hour and a half and I imagine about half of them were keepers .
anyway stay tuned ,but don't stay thirsty :cheers2
