I've been toying with the idea of giving spider rigging a shot. I took on a small project this summer, '79 Skeeter SS-7, that was destined for the dump ground. My idea was to revive this old girl and make her into a crappie catching machine, not exactly on a budget, but with as little money invested as possible. Unless it will transfer to another boat that I plan to start on this spring. So spending $150 plus on a spider rig, that Im not sure I will use any length of time or not, is out of the question.
Heres what I came up with.
Supplies used...
2- 20"x1"square tubing
2- 16"x1 1/2"x1/4" flat
2- 12" x 7/8" all thread
4- 7/8" nuts
2- 5/16"x1" bolts
2- 1/2" wing nuts
6- 7mm x 30mm? Bolts w/nuts
6- cheap rod holders
I had the square tubing, flat metal, bolts and nuts on hand.
Total cost for the rest of the supplies ~ $40
It's not the prettiest, its not the best diy spider rig, but for my needs it's very functional. Simple to setup and take down, adjustable and sturdy.
