Finally caught a few

First of all I'll start off by saying that my timing and luck have been terrible this year so far mostly. It seems like ever time I go fishing lately either they were biting the day before or the day after but not when I would go! That being said, Jill and I finally got into some decent fish this past week at Coralville Reservoir.

We went out Wednesday and the fishing was tough but managed 21 keepers. All on minnows, couldn't get a bite on a jig. We were out literally all day to get the ones we caught so it wasn't easy. Fish were schooled pretty tight but they weren't to be found just anywhere and everywhere. We really had to move around and search. Once we'd find some we would stay on them until they stopped biting then move on and look for more. Most were tight to brush along the bluffs.

Thursday we decided to go back out again but didn't get out until late afternoon like around 4:00 or so. Started out really slow, a few here and there on minnows. Then we decided to move to a spot that we usually do well on for largemouth bass but instead of going straight to the spot we decided to start about 1/8 mile down the bank and cast for crappies on the way to the bass spot. BAM we found em as soon as we hit that spot! We stayed in one place and cast jigs for about 2 hours and filled up the livewell with 24 really nice keepers and several in the 12-14 inch range. The bite was best about an hour before dark. Sat through a little light rain but was well worth it.
