Great Lakes steelhead
As daylight gets shorter it will effect fish migration. Usually after Laborday steelhead start to move into tributaries from some of the great lakes. Most of these fish have Skamania influence in them. Depending on location many streams will have decent to very good runs of steelhead by early october. These fish can be aggressive and do not die as do salmon.Early runs seem to take smaller baits and lures. Fly fishing in the lower clear water can be one of the best ways to catch these great fish. If you have never fished for them and looking for some fall-winter stream fishing these fish can give you a great experience.

When married to my first wife, we would visit family in Ohio.
Her cousins would take me fishing on Lake Erie. They also took me steelhead fishing g in this tiny Creek one winter and I would have never thought I'd see fish that size come out of that small of a creek. Being fro. The south, all we mainly see in creeks are sucker fish and minnows. But we was catching Steelhead from 28" to 34".
They smoked a few of the fish we kept and man that was good.
Out of about 30 fish caught we only kept 4. Smoked them and they sent me home eating smoked steelhead...lol
Miss those fishing trips.

For those who have never experienced it I can honestly say it is well worth seeing. Also fishing for them is a plus. I have fished Alaska and it is one of the greatest places on earth to visit and fish. However cost and time involved for such a trip makes it difficult to be doable for most working men. The Great lakes is much more accessible and at a cost similar to a family weekend get away. I work in the fall as a guide on for Pa steelhead runs and never had a unhappy client. However sometimes they seem to not have eating on there minds and you have to work for a few fish. I smoke some steelhead each year and there nothing that goes to waste. Pm me some pricing on a guided trip. It won't be this year as I have no more vacation time, but would love to visit Pa. and do some steelhead fishing again.
Thanks, Neil
