I like sickle hooks for jigs and minnows. They seem to set better - of course, they snag easier too, but... lol

Been casting jigs with Matzuo sickles for years.About like anything else in life they have their good n bad points(no pun intended). High tensile strength means they break instead of bending when you get "Snagged again" and they have barbs that are awfully small.Eagle claw makes a sickle with a bigger barb and lower tensile strength.Just the same they are sharp suckers that will hook a fish...Just another opinion...
I just thought they were cool. I've never seen a long shank minnow hook sickle in Walmart. LOL.
The ones I purchased were Aberdeen #2 Sickle Long Shank.
These are better.

I have used the jig hooks for years and they are by far my favorite. They are sharper than the little nasty hooks. And the small barb is a good thing In my opinion. It does not damage the fish's mouth as much so if you're not keeping them there's a greater chance that the fish with live. Also they are easier to remove from the fish. I use the little nasty a lot to and they are my second favorite

Don't know a lot about the regular Sickle hooks as I use the jig hooks, but the jigs will hook them in the roof of their mouth more often that other hooks so you loose less crappie! At least that has been my experience as well some of the guys I have tied some for say the same thing. So if it follows through to the regular hooks then I say go for it!

What Skip and Skeetbum said also for me. I also pinch the barbs down so it is easier to get the Crappie off the hook.
