It depends on who you ask.
My father in law used to fish Stonewall in its early days for crappie and used to kill them in 3 or 4 spots. He claims there are very few Crappie left in the lake since they have not caught many in the last few years. Of course he only fishes from a stationary boat while casting under a bobber.
According to the DNR there are several good crappie lakes in the State in fishery reports.
However the WV forum has been non-existent in activity since Feb- March of 2015, for whatever reason.
I was quite surprised to see the icon lit up that there had been a post.
I am just surprised that no one post much.I fish crappie with good results, the lake I fish is finicky when it rains due to the feeder streams, but it's always good for many outings.
My wife and I are learning the long line trolling technique in NC. we have never used it back in WV. would like to come and try it sometime. I was reading the WV regs last week while up home, clarksburg, and got confused about multiple rods. I can not figure out if you are allowed more than 2 rods per person after the trout stocking period or if it is not allowed at all in a trout stocked lake.
From the wv fishing regs- It is illegal to fish with more than two (2 ) lines or poles in an impoundment stocked with trout by the DNR from January 1st- May -31st......
To simplify, any trout stocked pond, lake or reservoir, can only be fished with two lines/ poles from January through May, After May you can fish with all the rods you can handle. Waters not stocked with trout do not have a rod/ line limit.I hope this clears it up for you.
That is the way that I was reading it also, but you know how interpretation of the regs goes when it comes to dealing with a DNR guy on the water, when he has a burr under the saddle.
Yeah, they can make it tough at times, I carry three poles while trout fishing stocked lakes, one as an extra in case I break a line I can get one back in the water, the GW always reminds me of the two pole rule.
Since this board doesn't get much traffic, I'll say this:
Congrats to WVU on beating #1 Kansas the other night!
