fished my favorate lake the last 2 days . A few decient sized crappie very few. Water temp was 48. Is it just a littel cold yet whats the deal. I was fishing a 6 foot deep crappie bed. Thats always been lights out in the past.

If so, my speculation is fish may use it some days and not others… It’s probably dependent on whether bait fish are using it at the time you’re fishing it. Additionally, there are many other factors that go into whether those fish will or will not be around that attractor. Just keep trying it periodically and keep a mental note of what the conditions are like when you are catching fish on it and that may explain when and why it is a successful attractor some days, but not others.
Also, this time of year I would suggest fishing docks and rock/concreted areas on your favorite lake. These areas will absorb the heat a little better and from my experience hold bait fish and hungry specks…The lake we’ve visited about via PM has numerous areas with concrete retaining walls and those seem to be very productive during cold water periods.

I gotta agree, it really depends on what kind of structure is around the area. I mean I've been to some small lakes where the north side of the lake will be 51 degrees by late afternoon, but on the other south side, water temp is 42. And that was a day where we had a very strong south wind. The top layer of water warms up first and on a windy day that warm water hits the wind blown shore and those fish will be suspended looking for food to get washed out towards them.
Overall, I'd say water temps are still kind of cool, but these warm sunny days are really helping. Even with the cooler temps forecasted for the latter half of the month, I would expect water temps to stay in the upper 40's to low 50's at least until April comes around.
Thanks for the reply guys. Hi bill. Its the same lake we pm about. A crappie bed that a guy adds cedars to it every year. I would like to talk more about some different stragities, for this lake. . I would love to hear any ideas and advice you could give me. Thanks .

Only other suggestion is make sure you cover all the real estate around the pile, those fish maybe loosely related to the attractor. Ex. first deep break next to the attractor, fish suspended adjacent to the pile.
As I mentioned before areas that absorb heat a little better should work this time of year. Docks, concrete or metal retaining walls, boat launch rails, etc. South end of the lake, one of the last coves on the East side has a concrete rip rap point and the next house in on the North side of the cove has a concrete retaining wall. The water depth is 8’ when the lake is full pool. This South facing coves gets direct afternoon sunlight and warms rapidly….a fair amount of specks have been removed from this area…lol

Wen't and fished my favorate lake sunday. Only 3 crappie all day. Messed with my new hummingbird 1199. . Fished the old spots no luck. Tried a few new ones. One 3 crappie. Caught on small jig tipped with minnow over an old cedar in 15 feet of water. Water temp was 53. Not to happy about the way this spring is starting off. . Guess ill proubly have to wait till next sunday and try it again.
April is usually the month I start hitting the lakes hard. From crappie, to gills, to walleyes. By May, I'm still hitting the crappie bite hard, and keep the pressure on gills, but I start going for bass and catfish too. During late April or early May I'll start hitting carp too, but that will be bowfishing. Got plenty of frozen shad in the freezer for some catfish cutbait.
