I just got the new Fuji XP and I like it a lot. It's water proof and shock proof. Also, when you have the waterproof cover on the Gopro, you get no good sound. With the XP it's all good. Not that you get good sound underwater, it's just that you don't have to switch covers to go from underwater to getting sound above the water. Personally, the gopro is crude in it's execution. It's good for it's wide angle and high resolution only imho. I have one and rarely use it anymore. I had the old XP and now the new XP, and those are my go to cameras for pictures and video.
I second slab, I use the gopro to film POV bow shots while hunting and have tried using it on the boat. No sound if you keep it waterproof, cool video and time lapse features on it. I will use my cannon camcorder for recording, since it has a zoom. If you are really going to get into filming fishing get a good wind screen on your mic and some lapel mics for voice! Nothing is worse than listening to wind drown out the voice on a fishing video.
Great question and thanks for the information Slab. I am also looking for a new camera, video recorder. I like the gopro, however the target market is extreme sports. In my younger days I was doing extreme sports, but today the knees are paying the price. I need a good camera and something that can take HD video.
That's why I'm buying Slabs used go pro soon as he us sicker of it. Lol
