Hey y'all ... I'm hoping to load the boat w/ specks in the next week or two, but I don't know much about finding them and then I don't know much about catching them ... so what are the basic rules, like depth, cover, structure, moonphase, water temps, season, bait,lures, I'll appreciate anything y'all care to share ... :cool:
real interested in moonphase especially .... :)
Some are being caught. Fairly slow in most of the area.
What part of Fl. do you plan to fish?

Central Florida ... Lake Woodruff (Deland) area ... according to the fishing report in the local paper the specks are hitting good in the area ... Chet

Thanks for the input bnwbassman ... Woodruff is the most convenient for me .. I generally put in at Highland Park Fish Camp ... sounds like y'all are gonna have a great time Saturday ... Good Luck ...
Would love to hear more about Orange.
We made several trips to Orange in the 70's in Feb for a week of fishing
and R&R.
Later started fishing Big "O".
Last time I checked on Orange it was dry.
Sure used to enjoy going to the Yearling for steak.

Yea, water came way up during the hurricanes. Florida game and fish elec. spring test said Lochloosa had some of the biggest and most numerous amount of specks in the whole state. But when Orange lake came up I think they all migrated to it. You can still catch them on Loochloosa but theres nothing like Orange lake . I'm not from Florida but have a question you guys might help me with. I understand that in Louisiana the specks are larger in the northern half of the state. The reason given was that hurricanes dump salt water in the southern lakes which causes fish kills. Do hurricanes have this effect on Florida waters?
