I instantly got bit, but he hopped of the hook. then i went to the end of the dock and dropped my jig slowly down and slowly reeled back up. I caught 12 this way. smallest was about 5-6" biggest was about 8-10". It was fun. First time targeting crappies this year, and im headed out there all day tomorrow  . wish me luck.
"Vertical Casting" method ?? :D Works, don't it !!!!
Does Iowa buy their Crappie stock from Alabama ?  That's about the only other place I know of, that Crappie seem to like a orange/char jig ... LOL!! They bust'em up good at Weiss, on that color ... LOL!!
But, seriously .... sounds like you had a good time, and that's what's important.
If you see this before you go .... try shooting the jig up under the dock, in the darkest/shadiest spots, and slowly retrieve it back out. The bigguns may just be hiding in there ... forcing the smaller ones to stay out on the fringes. ;) .......... luck2ya .... cp
