My Son's First Crappie at Boy Scouts Camp Out
This past weekend we went camping with Boys Scouts, to Keeton Pond a local farmer's place.
Weather was 65 and sunny with mixed showers. There were 8 boys and 4 adults for the sleep over, but a few parents popped in now and then.
We had camp set up 5 min, from town. So it was easy to make short trips.
Keeton Pond was about an acre and a half, maybey two. About 15 feet deep, and had a nice amount of veggitation and cover.
I brought 3 of our kayaks, and 5 life vest. When we arived at camp, I was promptley informed by the Scout Master - "I don't fish, So your in charge of fishing!" ( That's 2 Scout Masters in a row now) Yeah! So after our gear was set, we jumped in the boats. and started fishing.
We caught a few nice bass, and a couple of nice size Bluegill. My son comes up to me with a fish, "Hey Dad, look a Crappie!" He had a nice 10 inch Crappie, He was so proud he landed a Crappie. He had found a school of them on the East side of the pond. The largest one was 11 matbe 12 inches. My son and I caught most of the fish, but all boys had fun with the kayaks. What a fun weekend. Best of all my son and I have the Keeton's permission to come back and help in pond management. Score! : )
