All back pain is not treated with pressure from a lumbar support or a back brace. Be sure pressure won't make it worse. I have lived with it for 44 years. In my opinon mine is not bad enough for surgery. A lumbar support or the corset makes my back hurt.
I have learned to watch how I lift, how I get up and down. I lie flat every morning before I arise and every night before I go to sleep. Sometimes with the tv off my wife can hear my back "pop" as it goes into place. That is only when I have picked up something wrong or whatever.
Over the years I have had traction, weeks of chiropratic adjustment, intraveonus valium and weeks of being unable to stand or sit without help. For the past fifteen years just watching what I do and how I do it has helped. If I do something stupid like pick up my boat trailer and try to move it side ways ( with a jerk) and I throw something out of shape, I go to the the chiropractor, one trip, have it adjusted, have a little soreness for 2 days and I am good to go again.
They tell me mine can be corrected with surgery. I know too many people who have bad experiences with that. If you have a degenerative disc or something that can't be corrected with physical therpy, surgery may be a viable option. I personally would get more than one opinon from a doctor other than a general physican or a surgeon. A doctor who works with a sports team and who is on the staff of a good hospital is a place too look.
My wife has had two knees replaced and the surgeon was one of the physicans for the Carolina Panthers. Generally those people look at therapy first and surgery second.
Good luck, first get it well, then do what it takes to keep it from flaring up.
