Anyone else fish Douglas today? Any luck?
my partner and i fished Indian creek saturday.....point 14.... from 7 am until
4:30pm.....both of us had our limits and he probably threw back about 9-10 keepers....we caught most of them about 8- 10 ft deep after lunch....we used home made flies...1/ 16 and 1/32.......red head with chartreuse hair and dark blue on dark blue worked real good for him..........the bite was real slow
saw some other guys there also doing real well.................fished the same area saturday a week ago and had 16-18 total keepers
good luck to all..............
We fished at Nina Holler again today. Was there from about 9am till sunset. Long hard day but we managed to bring home 19.
Did you fish at point 14 or up in Indian Creek? Im guessing its too shallow up in Indian Creek.
We fished only from point 14 down to the bridge. All on the left side.
We did try to fish back in indian creek , two weeks ago and even marked some fish there but the water got real shallow , real quick.
Forgot to mention that we caught a few good fish early saturday at the S house before you get to point 14.
I fished friday started out good till the wind got up had six good crappie and two sauger.
After Wednesday, I am on vacation till after New Years. So Thurs, Fri, and Saturday, Ill be fishing. Weather is supposed to be nice with sunny skies and temp in the low 50's.
COLDWATER: If the crappie are still slow Thursday at Swanns, I will go check out point 14 Friday.
Charger..Years ago I had "69" Charger w/ 4404. Run like a cat with turpentine on his bare butt. I have fished Douglas since I was a kid with my Grandfather and used to do pretty good. Now I (in my late 40's) I take my youngest daughter and always git skunked...maybe one. Very embrassing. I use different colored jisgs such as blue/grey, green/red head and just about every color available. Usually fish Flatt and Muddy Creeks. Never have fished above Swann's Bridge or Nina creek (Don't even know how to get there). Oh well! Keep catching them and take care of that "best car ever built! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the compliments on the Charger. She is fast and its a blast to drive. SHe doesnt get driven a whole lot due to the values keep rising. I do drive her to shows and cruise-ins and pretty weekends.
Now to fishing. We fish Muddy Creek also up till a couple weeks ago. Now the crappie have moved up river to Swanns and Nina. Swanns boatdock is on Hwy 25/70. If your coming from Knoxville on I-40 east, get off the first White Pine exit after the I40 I81 split. I think its exit 424. Get off the exit, bear right and take the first left. That takes you over Swanns bridge and the dock is on the right, cant miss it.
We caught our limit there yesterday, going back here in a little while. Yeah I know its xmas eve, but you gotta go when their biting right?
I only use a blue fly with chartruse head and minnow. Rarely do I ever use any other color. Sometimes a white fly if we are trolling.
By the way, when you cross Swanns Bridge, look up river, you will see where all the fishermen are. The first holler after the bridge is Nina Holler.
Fished Douglas Friday and Saturday. Caught our limit both days. Yeehaa!;)
Guess I'll be heading toward Swann's and Nina. Are you trolling or just drift fishing? My youngest daughter (she's 14) loves to fish (guess she takes it from me), but it is pretty disappointing, as well as, embrassing when she is really hoping to catch something-but ends up empty handed. Also what size of jig are you using? Any advice you can share would be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas!
We'll be back Tuesday if the weather holds out.
We anchor and float fish about 4-6 foot deep in the river bed. You'll know where to fish, just look for all the boats :-)
We also use blue flys with minnows. Some use just a hook and minnows and do just as good.
charger are you catching any big fish or are
they just good keepers
Good keepers. Usually around 10-12 inches. We have been lucky, only about 1 in 10 are too small.
According to the guy in the boat down from us, Dad caught an Arkansas Crappie. Had the black streak down its backbone. First one I have ever seen.
we catch several black nose crappie night fishing
glad to hear you are catching good ones
The TWRA stocked 180,000 of them a couple years ago and this one was the first I had seen.
Back to Swanns in the morning!
tomorrow is supposed to be a warm day
you better get them while the getting is good
Yeah, Im on vacation and I will be out every day weather permitting.
keep us poor people that have to work posted on what
is happening ill bet this rain has muddied the water up
pretty bad i may fish some the end of the week
Probably so, it was pretty murky last few days. Guess because the dam was generating.
I caught my first black nose on douglas last spring in indian creek also caught a couple on cherokee
Went back yeaterday (Tuesday). Big fish were pretty scarce. Several caught their limit real EARLY, but by the time we got there, it was slim pickins. Only ended up with 5 keepers. Water was lower and very muddy.
May try Muddy Creek or Indian Creek in a couple days. Anyone fished these areas in the last few days?
charger was you fishing up at nina
Yeah, along with 100 other boats :-)
i got a buddy that fished down the lake yesterday i think he said they
had 20 and he didnt have to fight for a place to fish
Sinkum how were they fishing?
with a float an fly the fly that i sent you i didnt ask
but im sure he was in mcguire crk the only place
he fishes
Hey guys I usually bass fish but I have seen all the boats above Swann's and thought that I might give crappie fishing a try. How deep is the water above Swann's....I hate dinging up my bass boat???
it has come up a couple feet. It is about 7-8 feet in the creek bed. If you do not know the area, go slow, theres a lot of shallow areas. Your best bet is to follow another boat up. If not, after leaving Swanns, go straight across the river to the last bridge tower, its 10-15 feet there, and follow the rock bluff up. The shallows are on the right side until you get past Nina Holler. Then the shallows run in the middle, so go up the right side from there.
We fished yesterday with very little action, and today the wind was so bad we couldnt hold the boat. Goin tomorrow and try it again.
well this is my first post on crappie.com we went up to nina creek with all of the hundreds of boat we boated about 5 keepers. probally go back sunday if my brother decides to go. hope we have better luck this time some were catching alot some were catching none.
I heard they were catching a few at Indian Creek also.
charger did you fish today i am going tomorrow
Yeah I just got back. Very slow day. Only got 2 keepers. I want be there tomorrow, its the last day of my vacation I am goin to rest for the day.
Good luck!
p.s. If you can get there at sun-up, go up to the flats past Nina on the right against the bank. They catch a few there real early.
how far up past nina is it close to the stumps
Bout 400-500 yards past Nina on the right. You'll see all the boats lined up at the bank.
I may change my mine and go :-)
charger didn't go the weather stopped me how about you
Nope, sitting here at the house. Thunderstorms this morning and supposed to be a few this evening.
me and my brother went yesterday above nina creek and boated 5 keeper crappie and one 19 inch sauger.
