At least you got the first launch of the season done. :biggrin We're still waiting for the lake to recede and the ramps to be opened up.
Out Monday morning 5/7/2018 (water temp 62-64 deg.) and didn't do to bad considering boat has fuel issues again and we could only fish close to Blackhawk. I landed 10 , seven were keepers biggest being 12in most were caught 3-4 ft of water close to the pads on minnows with just a small hook . Hope to be back on water when new fuel pump comes in at #Buds Marine in a few days.
This fuel pump issue(2nd pump I replaced) was coused by a bad fuel cap and has been a real pain for the last ten months and a real pain while in Florida. Part has been on order (mercs newest pump ) from #Buds Marine and hope to have it Monday so I can install it along with cleaning the VST so I can hit Brown & Indian when the weather breaks. See you all on the water !!!!
Does anyone have a current fishing report? I will be fishing it this weekend for the first time all year.
Water temp 69-71deg along the pads 2-4 ft of water, one keeper crappie and the bite was slow. My neighbor and his son caught 6 saugeye (4 keepers) and one keeper crappie all in open water around one island that has 6+ ft depth close to it and goes to a hump of 2-3 ft of water. Green/yellow or red jig head with a minnow or a #Keitech seamed to work, they said bite was slow as well.
It was a great tournament and the weights for high. I ended up finishing 2nd with a total of 8.74 lbs for 8 fish. 1st place had 9.52. I think it was 8 teams ended up with over 8lbs of fish. Caught my fish early in shallow pads, then had to switch to deeper water once the sun got bright. probably caught over 100 crappie.
Congrats on seccond place ruttylooks like you had a great time.
Out this morning till around 11am,five saugeye landed two were keepers along with a 20 inch cat not a bad morning. Water temp was 69-71 deg, wind was a little tough at times but not bad as well . A lot of fishermen and ladies as well as a few pleasure boaters on the water so be safe everyone as the holiday weekend is coming up.
Tried Indian (6/6/2018)from nine am till about noon with my wife but it was a bust as it really showed that Logan county got more rain than Champaign as the eastern part of the lake was muddy and even Blackhawk looked bad. Water temp was 67-71 and if nothing else we got to check out a few more spots around the lake.
Tried Indian this morning and got out on the water early (6:20) and to say it was S L O W is an understatement to say the least. We had two boat, three people and the other boat landed one dink , lost one coming to their boat that was a dink as well ( they left at 10:30)and I got skunked but enjoyed the water. So not all was lost !!! Water temp 77-78 deg. and a little windy.
Heading up Tuesday morning(7/3) and takeing my daughterinlaws dad who is a first responder,if you see my blue tracker 175 say Hi. Will be posting conditions later in the day.
Not a bad morning with daughter-in-law's dad as we lost one nice saugeye (must have been 28" :) ) 11in white bass, 11 3/4 crappie, and two nice cats ( 10 n 14in) . First fish close to the boat had a sweat towel and sun glasses so the next time one of us looses our worm rag or sun specs, their not lost at all and being put to use ! Water temp 85 -87deg,precooked fish !!!!
Out this morning from 6:45 till about 12:30 with a water temp of 76-78 deg. so it was a little cooler than nine days ago. All we landed were two nice cats a lot of fish were marked but as school is out for the kids so it must be for the fish. :) Will try again next week here and or at CJ Brown , just hope we get some rain as we need it.
Out with the wife for a few hours(9:30-11:30) this morning no fish but had a good time. Saw a few crappie cought under a bridge and reconized on boat and the captin said it had been realy tough today and I relpied like the last few weeks and he agreed. Water 77-81deg no real wind and few boats till lunch time so I too the wife to Acheson's Resort for a good sandwich. (dash pic from Blackhawk canal area)
Downtime, I have a older tracker 05' with the 50hp 2 stroke, had the 3 carbs rebuilt soon after I bought it $600 and it runs and starts well, but I will tell you the best thing I have done is to run pure gasoline in the boat (no gas station junk) it cost a couple more dollars a gallon, but in my opinion money well spent. The gasoline today is not good with any engine that sits idle for long periods of time, I use pure gas in my log spliter, boat snow blower etc..
Tom513, I agree on the gas not being what it use to be but its difficult for me as is others to get pure gas (aka alcohol free) as its at Tipp City, Minster , Jackson Center as well as on the water at Indian Lake all a good drive for me. I have been using marine stay bill for years. My previous boat (Taho s/f) merc put a 04 150efi after I had issues with the 115 opti and I rebuilt the fuel n water pumps every two years and never had an issue. My tracker pt 175tk had an issue with the fuel cap and wiped out a couple of fuel pumps and I had to clean the vst as well but all is well now.
