What you have described is wired in parallel yes that will give you more running time......it will give you 12 volts that way
Tks sorry ment parallel good i can fish longer
Almost twice as long. Bring plenty of Beer
If you hook an onboard charger to a set of batteries hooked up in parallel will it charge both of them evenly?
Run my Terrova like that. Have charger hooked to one battery. Have never had a problem with batteries not charging overnight. Also have never run them down except once pulling cranks in the wind.
Here's a question hopefully someone can help me with. I have a 24 Volt Motor Guide 60lb that I have been running off 1 battery all last year and trolled for 6 hours yesterday. I understand two 12volts to make a 24 volt, but why is my Trolling motor even working off a 12volt and I have never had the battery die on me. I have it on an old 1990 Quantum bass / ski boat and never had any problems moving it around. Should I change it to 2 btrys if its working fine like it is? Or should I just get another btry and set up parallel for time?
If its working that well....I would leave it like it is. Dont try to fix something thats working good.
I'm thinking you have a 12/24 volt motor. Lots of the older motors were wired that way. They work just fine running of the twelve side. Does it have a switch for 12/24 on head or foot pedal. I would think a straight 24 would run off 12 but not be very efficient. Like G said if it ain't broke and your happy don't fix it.
It doesn't say anywhere about 12/24 volt ... The foot pedal just has a white dot , white dot with a T in it and white dot with a rabbit in it
Another dumb question before I give you maybe wrong info. Check to see if there is a jumper wire from cranking battery to trolling battery. If not and nothing hooked to trolling battery except the 2 wires going to trolling motor,I would say it would be a lot more efficient to have it hooked to 2 batteries in the 24 volt configuration.
I googled Motorguide FW-FB 60 and came up with a 24 volt trolling motor made between 2003 and 2006
I've already ran out an bought another DC btry so hopefully after work (if it don't rain) I can set it up to 24 volt. Thanks for the help everyone!
My guess is that it is a 12v/24v motor. I know some companies made them (might still make them).
and I had to edit this because I was commenting on page 1 of 2..... beat me to the punch!
The foot pedal just has a white dot , white dot with a T in it and white dot with a rabbit in it
Maybe the "T" is for Tortoise and the "R" for Hare.
Trolling motor is a small DC motor, will run off 24v, 12v, even 6v, just will not have as much power or hardly any on lower voltage.
