Remember if limits reduced it would apply to everyone. Just a few voluntarily releasing fish won't do much. :twocents The poll is multiple choice. Dardanelle Lake could be a fantastic fishery in a year or two. It is a good one now but could be one of the best in the state.
Depends on the waters you frequent. I’ve never caught a limit (25) on my home lake, but also don’t see a problem with someone doing so. As much as I resist government control politically, I feel the wardens do a good job of putting a fair limit number out there in most cases.Quote:

That said, some folks are just plain dangerous around water and can hammer em day in and out. More surveys need to be done more frequently on public waters to monitor populations. Waterfowl hunting allegedly is suffering from over harvesting as well. I’m too new at it and not a good enough shot to say whether that’s true.

Lots of good crappie, bass and catfish lost to these devices every year by irresponsible people. Not to mention the hazard of lost noodle and jug lines wrapped on your motor/ troll motor.

Limits will not help those who keep whatever and how much they catch. Some folks fish as if they are cleaning out a farm pond before it is repaired and restocked
Laws, Limits, Rules.... Good outdoors people don't need "laws" to know how and when to harvest any natural resource. If you fish for food, take only what you need to eat. If like me, you fish for fun and the challenge, you put back everything and thank the creature for the visit. Greedy and uncaring folk will do what they do no matter what laws are. If the rule says limit 15 they will take more. Drop that to 10 and they still take more.
Looking like a solution in search of a problem.
While I'm in agreement to take care of our natural resources, The Game and Fish does a good job in South Arkansas. They have already cut our limit at Lake Chicot to 20-, and 10-inch slot. Here in south Arkansas, we have numerous small lakes, and the Ouachita River, {Felsenthal Federal Refuge} to fish. A lot of us fish north Louisiana which have a very liberal limit because the lakes are closer. I usually go fish for good times not for limits, and like Nimrod does I give a lot of fish away to folks that cannot go anymore or just can't go fishing.
And another thing I look at down here in SArk is the age group fishing for crappie. It seems to be a older folks fishing, and deer hunting, which we have plenty of deer but seems like it's older folks than younger here in SArk. Even with FFSonar there just not many people fishing in my area. I carry my granddaughters every chance I get. Since I'm retired that still is limited.
As earlier discussions with Nimrod and other folks on this forum, AGFC needs to look at every area of the state and make regulations for the heavy used fisheries to protect our resources.
We are not in a metro area like middle parts of Arkansas is.

Ive heard of so many what I call "horror stories" where people continually bring home limits and then have to FIND somebody to take them. To me that's a waste of our resources. I do give some fish to elderly folks that can no longer fish. I keep what my wife and I, along with my Dad and his wife eats and I put up enough to allow for a few fish fried during deer season. I also give a couple messes per year to the 4 families that allow me to hunt on their lands. All the rest is released to grow some more.
I'm not from Arkansas, but I do wish we had enough wardens to patrol the lakes and ramps like they should.
Why would there be a rule change? Has there been any studies to prove we need to change?
I think you create a quagmire for the fisherman by tweaking rules for every lake. With hard evidence I’d be for it. The lakes I fish don’t have any pressure and I don’t see a reason to change.
With all that said CA, are you speaking about specific lakes or statewide?

I know a few lakes in our area that we are seeing less fish than just a couple years ago. Look at Mississippi , they have some of the most restrictive limits but also best fishing too. Would like to see some lakes like Dardanelle reach full potential as far as size. I know not all regulations will fit every water body. One lake here already had limit reduced back down. Locals requested it and believe it is still getting hammered. Never in my 60 years have I seen so many fishing all year and with all the new electronics it has to be tough on smaller lakes. Even before livescope AGFC did a tagging study on Dardanelle and over half the tagged Crappie were turned in the first year.Quote:

The trout regulations on Bull Shoal tailwaters has a year round catch-and-release only zone that is off-limits during the brown trout spawn in January. What about of catch-and-release only period during the spawn, say during the months of March and April? That would keep a lot of folks off the water during the crucial time when the crappie population is most vulnerable.
Most lakes don't have a problem with numbers as Crappie are so prolific except for a few small lakes . Just a few years ago the bulk of fishermen hours spent chasing Crappie was during that time frame . But some lakes are getting hammered all year long now . Doubt you could get AGFC or fishermen to even consider anything like that . Doubt most fishermen or AGFC will want to do anything till some lakes are so bad fish get tough to find . With all the pressure and high end electronics fish are getting hammered more than ever. Even the best lakes it takes at least 2 years to grow what most call a keeper of 10''.Quote:
