Think I am going to give it a try tomorrow instead of heading to Eufaula. I will give a report after I get back.
had a limit of 15 today but it was a very hard day fishing to do it..started at Cherokee Landing, 1st pile in 16' caught 9 nice crappie with many throwbacks..(thought wow this is gonna be 1 of those days)..i was right fished for 7 more hours just to catch 6 more keeper fish..and had a hard time doin it..fished brushpiles from Cherokee to Cookson and the trees back..was a tough day..hard to find the right depth pile or tree..but a day on the water beats any day at work..
GOOD FISHIN
Actually I consider 15 keeper Crappie on Tenkiller to be a good fishing day. Way to go.
Fished Tenkiller this morning. Hit about 20 brush piles that usually produce well, but notta one on any of them today. So I went to looking for new brush. Found a good pile on the outside of a dock and caught about 25 out of it. The bad thing is not one of them was big enough to keep. I did enjoying getting back out on the home lake though.
we went sat. 3/12/11 fished standing timber at pettit only caught 2 keepers. bite was slow wished i would have ran up to cherokee and tryed some brush piles. might go back this weekend depending on weather.
kd had the same trouble fishing the trees..its the brushpiles in 20 to 25' of water producing..well were the last time i went..hard to find those piles that depth since the lake is low..have alot of piles that are that depth when the lake is normal but now they are in like 15' of water and dead..but if your into marking piles for spawning fish when the lake is normal now is the time to do that..they are sticking out of the water..alot of them i put in so pass them by ok..lol..
GOOD FISHING
Ill be sure and pass them up ( hehe ). I might go back sunday and hit some fo the pilesmaroumd cherokee. Thinking about trying gibson one evening this week. I just don't have many piles marked for it.
KD, pass up gibson unless they get the level down and stop drawing the lake..corps has drawn all the cold water down the lake which has cooled off about 7 degrees from a week ago and the bite is OFF..those fish hate the current..lock jaw for sure...but dont take my word for it..have a go at it and tell me how it goes..
thanks ranger i will just save my money and go to pettit this weekend.
Mark, you get that 520 up and running yet?
Craig, its up and i'm runnin..called Nichol's and asked if they would run the cables for me since it was gonna be a job fishing them thru the small cable tubes from the 522 up front to the 520...well RANGER has done it again...never ceases to impress..installed from the factory in Flippin..already 3 double T connectors..25' extension cable...and 2 2' cables just waiting for that new locator..well ok your locator now mine...lol...and thanks for all those waypoints on Oologah...hope i need em..downloaded everything off my 522 and uploaded to 520 so im ready, fired up, and start my 6 week vacation tomorrow..well i have to work 2 12 hr days and 1 6 hr day from now til the 3rd of May..my wife is gonna need a security blanket cuse i am gonna be fishin..lol...hope the grass doesnt grow 2 much cause i am not gonna have time to cut it..see ya on the lake Craig
my buddies dad fished elk creek area yesterday and said the river was rising. there was alot of current. now i am thinking about another plan.he said he only had 2 keepers. ranger09 i think we have some mutual people fishing. i wont put thier last names but here are there first joe r. and his son steve r. i work with steve.
Yes we do KD..known em for years..had ole Joe in my boat a few times..hes a hoot...no one has put more trees in the water than Joe..but when it comes for crappie fishin when he talks its like EF HUTTON..you should shut up and listen..lol..fish with a feller alot that introduced me to Joe years back his name is Charlie P..sure you know him too...taught me everything I know about fishin a jig...finer fellers you will not meet...small world huh KD
I agree ranger they are the ones thats been teaching me.i don't know charlie personally but i've heard alot about him. Steve talks alot about pete and van also. I figure joe will hit tenkiller this week along with gibson so maybe we'll get a good report.if not then i'm going to try gaines creek or crowder.
started my annual vacation friday will be off til May 3rd, so if theres anything to report which i suspect you will be the first to know..will PM you
i'm going next weekend for sure. just going to wait on a report as to which way to head. might run south and see if i can learn somthing about euf.
like you KD will be fishin somewhere all week, so will be giving u reports on which way to head..its gonna be firing up and probably will not matter which way you go..tenkiller cant be as bad as it was last yr..noway..sure hope its like yrs past cause i love fishin the clear water..hate the scum eufaula give ya..takes longer to wipe the boat off than it does to catch a limit..well sometimes..lol...hope to catch you on the water
TOMORROW>>>3/23/11..let ya'll know how it was
well didint make it to Tenkiller today as planned..buddy canceled so i went to Eufaula..as i was puttin a crappie in the LW..got a call..my buddy saying he was going to Tenkiller if i wanted to tag along..well i was alil out of the way to go so..he called back at 12 noon saying wish i was there..he had a limit already fishing the pettie bay area...and was fishing for fun now..i thought it was all fun..ok he finished up in the big hollow area before heading back to the ramp..he had a total of 26 crappie all keeper fish but with only 15 in the LW..1 limit..seems to be picking up at Tenkiller too..didnt want to make a grown man cry so i didnt tell him that i had a limit of 37 at Eufaula..lol..but he will find out now when he reads this..oh well
Finally made it today..unloaded our boat at 8:05..first fish 8:08 and 2 limits caught at 9:47..30 big crappie and males starting to turn black..had 1 male that weighed 1.15 lbs..huge male fish..so we started fishing for numbers..last fish caught at 2:58pm..total keeper crappie caught today at TENKILLER was 80..sure hard to throw back big ole crappie and didnt cull a single fish..wonderful day on the water..water temp when we started was 57 degrees..which was 8 degrees less than yesterday evening as i was told..when we left it was 61 degrees..the cold night cooled it off alil..but didnt seem to hamper the bite..blk/chart super tubes and silver shad babby garlands was the bait of choice today..red/chart wasnt bad either.. heres 3 nice 1'sAttachment 57777
Ranger where u fish in tomorrow?
probably Eufaula since the wind is gonna blow from the south hard
Jb and I are headed there as well
where u goin Grover..what area of the lake
Probably where the fish are not biting! I think we are going to checkout gaines to start.
well another wonderful spring day..rained from 8:37am til 2:14pm today..nothing for a crappie fisherman that is if your rain suit is worth anything and good for me mine kept me dry and comfortable..had 37 keeper crappie. My partner and myself cleaned 2 limits a total of 30. The shallow bite is gone for now with only 5 fish coming from woodpiles at 12' or shallower. The bite was steady before the rain and after the rain slacked up after 1pm.. the bite came in woodpiles in the depth od 18' to 24' and from trees in the mouth of Petit Bay. Weapon of choice was bass assassins in the albino shad color and bobby garlands in silverflake shad. Odie the 3lb'er still alludes me also but here is 1 that like 2oz's hitting the mark she was 16 3/4" and 2lb 14 oz's Attachment 58358
man wish i was there.
some of us have to work and feed the babys..and ur it..
Nice fish Ranger. One big shad shy of 3 lbs. I am at work today, going tomorrow on Oologah. May try to hook up with you next week. I am on vacation.
Odie
hehehaha. will i guess i'll have to pull out the secret weapon. you met her last weekend.
Fished Tenkiller first time ever. Nope, no big crappie there, not at all. I saw the strangest thing, a 16 inch, 2-3 lb bass with a 12 inch bass stuck in its mouth. Both alive. Had to tear the larger bass's mouth to get the smaller one out. Let the smaller one go, he was a little tore up but I think he will make it. Kept the bigger one, it made a nice addition to the crappie I didn't catch.
Nice goin Fishers..KD will not have to guard his fishin hole from you know..like I been sayin no crappie in Tenkiller..lol
Fished Tenkiller for a couple of hour this morning. Ended with 8. All caght in 7 FOW. Pumpkin/chartruese jig. When the sun came out it was over for us. We didn't have long to fish, but enjoyed getting out. http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...nkiller003.jpg This one measured at 15 3/4".

Here I sit in the Hampton Inn in NOrman the home of the beloved SOONERS..going to the State Academic Tourney today which my wife is our coach and I am the van driver..And wouldn't you know it I get a call from my fishin buddy saying I should of been with him yesterday..He and neighbor caught their limit of 30 and boated 48 legal crappie yesterday and was heading back today..UGG...oh well thew kids will have a gr8 time and I am making memories..beats working kinda..lol
my buddie and myself caught our limit today. we had 22 before the wind got up which was about 10:30. then things slowed a bit but picked backup pretty quick. we wound up catching 40 keepers and several throw backs. we started culling about 12:30 finished up about 2:30 the wind was a real bear after noon couldn't hardly hold the boat. i caught my biggest ever crappie that weighed 2lbs 2oz was right at 17 inches long. i told my buddie he has ruined me for life now i'm hooked for good on crappie fishing. that is until the big cats start running this june. i will try to post the some pic after while if ican figure out how.
Remember KENNY..no such fish in Tenkiller..repeat it now..gr8 day and beautiful catch and yes your hooked for life..
