longlining or spiderrigging which is most productive and why??

I would really appreciate the forums thoughts and opinions on the above guestion and comments as to the different circumstances where one method would be better than the other. Thanks, Jerry

Well... I was hoping some of the guys who spider rig more than me would
jump in, but anyway here's my take on it:

longline - good for searching for fish, best way if fish are scattered here
and there over a big area. Not so good at getting multiple fish off the
same spot. Better if the fish want a faster moving bait.

spider rig/tightline - if your fish are holding tight to something defined
AND you have a good idea where it is :) this would be the way to go.
Better if you have to hold it on their nose to make 'em bite.
But you can kill a lot of time doing this where there aren't fish.

Me personally, never know for sure where they're gonna be, just where I
left 'em last trip (week or month ago) so I like to cover as much area as
I can. But I think the most important thing is to just do whichever you
enjoy the most - Lots of days they can be caught a half dozen different
ways. Not by me, I mean by a half dozen different fishermen, each doing
"their thing" that they're best at. Seen it too many times in our club
tournaments :)

Well....I do both, both has its advantage. longlining you go faster, you
locate fish quicker. I think you can catch more fish, tightlining you go
slow, maybe catch larger fish, can circle back in the school quicker, I
think most of the tournament fishermen tight line rather than longline. I
believe they feel you will catch larger fish. so you see it's a matter of
opinion.

not much more to be said here. you can control your depth at different speeds spider rigging. Long lining your baits will rise or sink when you stop so you keep moving.

Longlining works well for fish that are not very deep. It also takes more skill to get the baits to a specific deoth.

Titelining works well for getting the baits deeper and it is easier to control depth. Titelining also allows one to put baits at several different depths at the same time.

As far as which is more productive, it depends on what the fish want and how deep they are on any given day.
