Kissing Babies.
Bet you thought I’d gone political on ya, not this time. With the wind being a factor that almost kept me home, I went back to the salt and played hide from the wind again. My Jon and 12 uninterrupted miles an hour winds just don’t get along. I started the morning watching Tarpon all around me for near an hour, a few less than 3’ from the boat. I couldn’t get em interested but I’m a studyin on what I can do different next time. Current was runnin strong westbound thru the canal, very different from the previous week. Nothing much happened for the first hour but once the sun came up and I moved away from the Tarpon I did get a few. I wondered if I’d even be able to make a sammich with the midgets I was getting but I was busy. Started with this little mangrove snapper.Attachment 473000
Pretty things they are but getting em over ten inches is always a challenge. Working my way along I got hit some but no takers til this guy and some of his friends came to visit.

In traditional Jimmy Houston style, I gave em a kiss and put em back telling em to go get bigger. Kissin babies, I’d had enough of that so I made a little move. And it was for the better. Still no giants but they put a better bend in the rod.

Check out the blue in his tail, comes from eating crustaceans I’m told.

And then it was back to kissin babies but he was sure enough a pretty one. I’ve never seen one with that much blue in the tail.

Now after one it was time for the house. The new rod I had built with the black and gray grips was a Fenwick MHXF 7’2” and lighter than any others I have. Sensitivity is excellent and comfort is great. Really does the job well. I also got one other snook, about 22”, that was hooked in the middle of the gills and I had to work fast getting the hook out and not doing any more damage. He bled some but not super bad and he got measured and released as quick as I could without a pic. I was glad he was big enough I could get my hands and hemostats in there to do what I had to. A great day for me and the fish all lived to play another day. Hope y’all get out soon…… Skeet

Sounds like a good day. Kissing babes better than boating with a skunk. Good job.
