Combo trip
I picked up my brother a little after eleven this morning and we headed to the shooting range at the Big Lazer Wildlife Management area .
We shot for about an hour, had lunch , and while my brother sat and enjoyed being at the lake , I got in about an hour and a half of fishing .
I used my 6’ St Croix Trout Series (original series) UL rod paired with a Shimano 22 Sahara c2000s reel spooled with 2# P-line Floroclear.
I used a 1/64 ball head jig with a size 10 Lil’ Nasty sickle hook and a shortened Trout Magnet body .
I downsized everything to try and catch something out of this overfished lake .
The wind was tough and gusty and made fishing that much harder .
I managed to catch ten fish total including a few redbreast , small gills and a couple small bass including my smallest bass I’ve ever caught on a hook .
The reel was new . It’s an experiment that worked pretty good . I’m attempting to get the most distance out of tiny jigs .
The Sahara is a shallow spool version I found on Amazon. With a few drops of Lucas reel oil , it’s surprisingly smooth . The drag is awesome too. Perfect for 2# line .
Fun day spent with my brother.
He doesn’t fish much anymore because he has difficulty walking around the banks and I can’t get him back in my boat .

That’s the smallest I’ve ever seen I believe. Glad you got a day with your brother. I don’t see mine near enough. Looked like a good trip to me.

Gotta love those Trout Magnets. I have been killing them with the bison.
