When wade fishing for crappie, I like the shorter 9 foot rods. Easier to manage in the flooded buckbrush. I also like the middle sized spinning reels as I like to attach a small cork and turn around and cast out towards the lake too to check for staging fish. Also, if my drag is set right, I can fish with a foot or 2 of line out but reach up and strip a few more feet to make landing a slab easier. Haven't done it in a few years but would really look forward to the spawn each year to go wade fishing!
Where at on the Buffalo?
I assume you are going after small mouth?
I always use green or brown Zoom speed craws with 1/8th jig head.

Here on local streams minnow type crankbaits or small spinners . Tube baits will work great too . I have used even bigger minnow baits like Rattlin Rouges . We have Smallmouth , Largemouth and Spotted Bass in the streams here. Really loved to float or wade streams alot when I was younger. Most of my fishing buddies just like me and are getting older .

Fly,,,listen to Nimrod,,,,he’s a fishing legend there,,,usually fills his boat each and every time out…
When I've fished the Buffalo River for small mouth we did the best with small craw dad crankbaits.
