What clear coat to use?
Hello, I want to paint some weights with a clear coat and wanted to know which clear coat to use. I will also be painting some hooks with CS Coatings Powder Paint and want to know if I need to give them a clear coat and what kind. For the hooks and weights should I use Clear Powder Paint, Clear Epoxy, UV Clear, or even Acrylic?

That’s the million dollar question. I’m not 100% clear on the application you are wanting to use a clear for as ya confused me with weights and hooks being painted/cleared.
Powder paint in itself mixed with clear powder paint will give you a good shine. If you want to take it one step further you can dip in clear powder paint before you bake to give it that extra pop. I don’t like sally Hanson hard as nails for anything. CSI clear coat is alright but peels off. I have used Solaris and bone dry UV. Solaris is tacky to me. Bone dry is great. Both require good UV to harden. I use a UV flashlight to set up then sit out in sun for 30 minutes. BSI is a 2 part epoxy that I hear is great. I have it but have yet to use. I also have KBS Diamond Finish. It’s great but man expensive and leftovers can harden quickly if not stored properly. To date KBS has been the best for me. Alumilite is another UV I hear is great and probably the only clear I haven’t used.

Sorry for the confusing question, What clear coat would you use for bare metal weights?

I would just use a clear powder paint and then bake it.

Thanks I think I'll use that, what has been your experience with clear epoxy?

KBS Diamond Is the best I have used. It’s self leveling. I still put on a rotating wheel. It has the best finish and tough. Is expensive and be careful storing as it will harden on you.
