I have some older buck tail that has developed a dis-"stink" odor. Any suggestion on how to get rid of the odor? Or is it like garlic, an attractant?

Not sure it is an attractant but I have tied bucktail for many years and it does stink some. I actually get new bucktail that stinks. Not sure but it does not slow down walleye from sampling stink. I have not messed with trying to get rid of oder but do use shad scent on walleye jigs that may mask them. Shad scent really stinks. LOL
I think your right, probably just need to spray some slab sauce on it!
My wife gets on me about stink every time I open my tub of Bucktails, lol!

Thanks Skip, I heard someone say , that bucktail smells like the area it came from, no sense trying to fight it!
New, old buck tail all smells stank nasty.
BTW, I know some of you like tying bucktail and the website I always push has some great tips on tying bucktail so I will link a good one.

How about separating the color of the bucktail to make it easier to use the part you want?

Just saw the video on YouTube. Neat information, useful.
i have actual actual bucktails of real deer around here and there and never noticed any odor ?
i suggest its how they were preserved and by who ,,,,
You can wash them in mild soap & warm water. Be sure there is no fat on the skin. Hang them to dry with a fan.
