I passed over the top of the dam yesterday and the control structure is still wide open. The amount of water coming out has slowed conciderbly, I was thinking there may be silt built restricting the flow. Two ft down two ft to go it will be intristing to see what happens. Some of the stumps I've seen are huge and in places I pass, how I still have a motor I don't know.
I believe that you are correct. The flow has been restricted since they first opened the gate. With a wide-open gate, the drop is normally greater than 2"/day. It was about 1"/day when they first opened it, then last Sunday it dropped to less than 1/4"/day. At this rate, it won't reach 34' by November 1. Thanks for the information. You have been a big help.
Chip,
I contacted Richard McGuffee with LAW&F and he tells me that the Larto Gauge is no longer operable.
"Andre there is not a restriction in the lake if you are going by the water level gauges on Larto (rivergages.com or weather service) that gage is no longer reading. This gage is maintained by the U.S. government, not sure what department. Let me know if I am misunderstanding your question."
Can you tell if the lake has dropped since Sunday, July 26 and if so can you estimate the amount. Also, when you drove over the Drawdown Structure, could you tell if the water was flowing?
Thanks a bundle,
Andre (Cajun)
Do you know of a physical gauge on the lake that can be read manually?
I was there yesterday and the gate was open and flowing 8/2. Just recieved a text from a friend that lives on the lake that the gate was closed this morning 8/3/20 reason given they reached the level they wanted. He estimates water is @3' below pool my guess also. Next time I'm there I will go find the guage and give you an accurate water level. I am curious myself.
