Looking to get started making jig heads

I really don't know how to get started. I know I need a gravity fed melting pot and a mold, but I can't find the mold I want.

I'd like one that does 1/32 ounce round heads with no collar. I'd like to pour as many at a time as I can. I'd like the same for 1/16 ounce.

I also want to be able to use long-shank #4 and #6 hooks. Actually, what I REALLY want is someone to make these jig heads for a cheap price, but I can't find them anywhere. :)

If anyone has suggestions on where to find molds, the best pot to use for home pours, and good long-shank hooks, I'm all ears.

Zeiners, or Grizzly jig can help you figure out which mold from doit to buy.

My opinion for cost of pot, 2 molds and supplies unless your going to sell or give away a bunch you would be better off finding one of the suppliers on here to make them for you. Now I pour and don’t sell but find it a enjoyable hobby. But I had a lot of stuff accumulated over the years.

I'd prefer just buying the jigs and be done with it, but I haven't found anyone yet that will do them.

How do you modify the molds? Just Dremel it out a bit?

Yes, I just use a Drexel. Usually dose t take much if anything. I’m just not sure on those longer shank hooks since I have never poured any.

Lee 10lb pot, still using the first one I bought 15 years ago. Do it pro model molds pour 7 or 8 at a time. If you look into Jacobs molds you’ll find they’re more expensive. There quality is much better than do it and some of them have ball head on one side and collared on the other, 4 of each. Two molds and you’d be set. I’ve never seen the need for longer shank hooks. The sickles I use almost exclusively do a great job. Landed many crappie over 2lbs on a #8 hook that’s lighter than 1/32. I never regretted buying the tools it takes to pour my own. Good feeling to buy the hook and do the rest and then catch a personal best fish on it. Also a good feeling to give a friend a few heads to trY. You both feel good and little money spent.
