A good night at Logan Martin 4/30

Had well over my limit, mostly caught after 10 pm. And a lot of 1+ pound crappie, too. See my reply to Night Fishing thread by Jim for pics.

Not trying to get any specifics but when you fish at night do you use a light or do you find boathouses or piers with lights? Thanks

I don't mind sharing most of the specifics. I like to try to get out at dusk but usually it is full dark before I can get there. If the fishing is good and the minnows hold out I might stay as late as 2-3 a.m, but usually give it up about midnight.

I have all the lights on my boat. I use a couple of clip-on type lights mostly to help see the rod tips and to see inside the boat. I also hang a Coleman lantern over the water and have two submerssible fishing lights, one is a green fluorescent and the other is a Brinkman Q-Beam white light.

Best places to fish are usually at the edge of some change in the underwater terrain like the edges of road beds, creek channels (especially if there is a sharp bend in the channel or road), underwater humps, drop-offs, etc. This time of year the fish are getting deeper so I look for these terrain features in areas where the water is more than 20 feet deep (on Logan Martin anyway). And it always helps to be in an area where the water will be noticeably flowing when the dam is releasing water. I suspect this information is pretty much true no matter which reservoir you're fishing.

Also, very important to have a radio on hand to listen to a ball game or some nice music, as well as a few snacks, a coke, and a friend to enjoy the night with.

I was fishing in about 25 feet of water, BUT... It was actually on a slope where a creek entered the main lake. The slope bottomed out at 30+ feet and went up to about 10 feet.
