Lake James(aka the "dead sea")
I took a trip with some friends over to Lake James in NC. My first experience with this lake wasn't the best, I picked up a few white and yellow perch. Lots of folks have been skunked on this lake, earning it the nickname "the dead sea". It's a very deep and clear lake.
We went there instead of Lake Hickory or Lake Rhodhiss because they were too muddy after all the rain we've had over the past week. The first three hours made a skunking look likely. The wind blowing off the blue ridge caused the lake the start whitecapping. We finally tucked into some coves and ended up catching the biggest white perch i've seen in that lake. Also, some shellcrackers, bluegills, and a smallie hybrid decided that louisiana swamp worms would make a good meal.
All said and done we wound up with 48 keeper panfish. Not bad at all for a winter day on a difficult lake. I think I need to dedicate more time to lake james in the future...
PS: No minners were harmed in the making of this post.
