Camp Lejeune
I’m looking for some good freshwater spots that I can play catch in release on from the bank. My husband is a Marine and we’ve been here for several years, but I can safely say that I know nothing about the local lakes. I tried my hand at salt/brackish water fish and I found out that I am a pro at losing my tackle to rocks, so I think I’m going to stick to what I know; freshwater! If anyone has any insight on good places to shore fish in Onslow county, I would greatly appreciate it. Any insight on colors for plastics or rooster tails would be helpful as well! I’m trying to get my daughter into fishing like my dad(you may know him as SkeetBum on here) did for me, but as we all know a bored 3 year old has the attention span of a goldfish and so far our attempts to catch anything have been unsuccessful. We don’t have a boat/canoe/kayak, but I do have feet and the urge to go drop a line. Thanks in advance!

Wish I could help you out but I don’t know anything of the area. I’m located in piedmont region. I have a 4 yr old girl as well as a 1 yr old girl. I have the 4 yr old interested in fishing but we haven’t had the chance yet to go. I purchased her a kayak so hopefully this year is the year. I would maybe suggest checking into maybe a city lake. Ours has boats, kayaks and canoes you can rent and go fishing in. Love seeing the excitement on kids faces when they catch them!

The only thing tougher than a marine is a marines wife. That’s my girl.
