This is another way I like to fish deeper water. I will use a tight line with a dropper rig dangling from a hook snap. Set the hook snap so that with a five inch dropper line the lure is about three feet from the lake floor. The tight line is at an angle to the rod.

I fish this style of dropper rig frequently.I have several pre made,some I add two droppers.On the double dropper,I try to put the lower just above the bottom or vegetation,and the top one about where you say in your drawing,I do this to pick off any low hanging fruit that may be passing by.

Yep,that's exactly how I set mine up.My first experience was using a Sabikl set up for trout in deep water.I baited each hook with a meal worm or crappie bite,when I started catching more trout than before,I did some research and found how to rig a drop,I use it very often.
what do you mean '' the hook rides up''
If you look at his drawings, you will notice the jig hanging horizontally has the hook riding up instead of down,that's the proper set up to insure a better hook set.
