Fishing in South Louisiana
Yesterday Linda and I went fishing for some slabs. We took a long boat ride to Lake Penchant. We fished the lake proper along the shore line. We were moving along nicely with the wind and I was using my Micro Pole to stop us to probe a location before moving on. I dropped my jig over board and let it sit there while I set the angle on my FF. I looked up a started to lift my jig to put it next to some lily pads but to my surprise I had a small bass on. Great way to start. A few feet down the bank I had a real good bite, boy was it pulling, it even pull some drag out. When it finally tired I was able to net a nice sheaphead of around 4 pounds. I thought I was fresh water fishing. A few dips later I got another good bite. This time I pulled up a very nice flounder of about 2 1/2 pounds. Like I said, I thought I was fresh water fishing. Next I caught a small blue cat and then a keeping size channel cat. OK, time to move. We rode to the other side of the lake where the wind was being blocked somewhat. Within a few minutes of getting there, bang, a nice slab. A couple of minutes later, another nice one. Now we were freshwater fishing. I wasn't too long before Linda had 2 in the boat also. In between catching them we caught a few nice gills. Since we left very late we couldn't stay long as we had a 50 minute boat ride back as Lake Decade had gotten to rough for my boat. On the way out we stopped in what's called the pit. There I managed to pull in one more slab. Had a nice long uneventful ride back and a good trip under our belts.
