I went fishing yesterday, January 31. I arrived at the ramp early, before the sun came up. It was a beautiful, sunny day, with just enough wind to make you want to get out of it.

I got lucky, and by 12:30 p.m., I was packing it up and heading home with a mess of fish to keep for supper.
I put out a whole group of rods: 8 long ones (16’ and 14’) out front and one short one (7’) on each side of the boat. I pushed hair-jig/minnow, and baby-shad/minnow, combos about 6’ deep in 10 - 16 FOW. The fish seemed to like Cajun Cricket colored, and white hair jigs, the most. The water was a little stained, and the surface temperature was 40 degrees.
The yellow perch were in—mostly males.
I caught a bunch of crappie and yellow perch, one flier and one small striper. I kept 15 of the biggest fish for dinners, and threw back a bunch of smaller ones.

The solunar forecast predicted an “average” bite for that day. I love average…can’t wait for better and best!
