Boy howdy. Gonna try a place tomorrow
Hey Toad,
Any advice on where they are starting to bite on Wheeler? I've been hunting them up in First & Second creek, but just getting the little uns. You been using red wigglers? Deep, shallow flats? Bobber, no bobber? Along the bank or out away from bank?
Hoping to find some shellcrackers soon, before they go deep!
Thanks,
Scuba
These fish were def on bed. They were colored up and looking for love! My beds are in about 6ft of water and not as shallow as I've found in the past. Sandy gravelly banks produced new beds I didn't know about. Contrast that w today I fished Wilson.... Had to work for the fish and found shallow beds where I could see the fish. Couldn't get em to hit for nothing and the fish were paired up and flash in their sides. Makes me wonder I'd the true heavy hitting happens when they're making beds and protecting beds after the spawn. Day or 2 before and after the full moon.
Scuba I caught these on all types of techniques. Bottom... Corks...jigs... Out off the bank
If you are finding small fish Try Fishing out from that in a little deeper water.
