Clinton Lake 11/11/06
:D Another GREAT day!!! Wind next to nothing and crappies were a bitin'. Find the shad and fish the bottom under them. Caught them from 14ft to 22ft, 6in off the bottom. 1/4oz jigs with a Crappie Pro 'Wasshoppah' and a crappie nibb. Look out:eek: there is hybird stripers with them. Some as large as 4lbs and will wreck your rigs if your drag sticks. <*)}}}><

crappie fishing...
glad to hear your report from Clinton. A few people went up last week to Melvern and it was somewhat slow for them. Another group went over to Toronto and did quite well (several 1/ 1/2 to 2 lbers.
Need some fronts to come thru and drop that water temp down so things will really start to pick up.
regards,
drifter

I was unable to find the shad and crappie at Clinton yesterday but did find the shad and the hybrid stripers. A couple of us stayed with the hybrids thinking we would go looking for the crappie once the hybrid action shut down. The striper action slowed down enough after three hours that we tried two find some crappie. We put in about 45 minutes searching for crappie with no success then decided to got back and see if the stripers were still around. We spent another hour catching stripers and called it a great day fishing.
Now I see why folks like the striper action. We had instances where both our rods would have fish on and we had to hold one rod down with a foot while reeling in the other rod. Those fish can sure stretch a line and bend the pole. That day was a real hoot especially for someone that wasn't going to be keeping any crappie even if I could have caught any.
Three of us went down to Lake Norfork in Arkansas striper fishing with a guide several years ago and from that experinece I determined I wouldn't pay to do that again. We caught fish and the guide was a OK fellow but its just that I didn't enjoy that style of fishing. We trolled with two unbrella rigs and a left and right planner board. The guide put the baits in the water and set the rods in holders and we chewed the fat until there was a fish on and then we would grab a rod.
Since we were pulling the umbrella rigs with umteen jigs on them we just kept trolling while reeling in fish. The guide impressed me at how well he kept the umbrella rigs untangled on the deck and I understood why he wouldn't want to risk snagging and loosing the free rigs if the boat was stopped to reel in a fish on another line. To me by continuning to troll while reeling in a large fish was like just like pulling in a snagged log.
Just think if Kansas allowed more than two hooks per line you could be out there pulling umbrella rigs for your crappie.

Sent ya one back, Jeff. Maybe I'll see ya out there Saturday. What kinda boat are you in? <*)}}}><

A Blue Lund MR.Pike, The weather channel is calling for 15 to 25 mph winds. Perry is probably out unless the wind forecast changes. What Boat ramp is the easiest and closest on Clinton?

Jeff. just looked at the weather site and it looks sad for Saturday. Even now, they are saying there might also be some rain! I think I'll just head out there tomorrow around 10AM.Heh! Heh! Heh! I use the State Park ramps at the Marina. They are the closest to Lawrence. The strong South wind can make the ramp closest to the Marina tough to use. The other one there, the South wind will blow you sideways. In these conditions, I would drive around the lake to the town of Clinton. Drive straight thru the small town and you will come to the lake with protected ramps from just about any wind. Good luck!! <*)}}}><
