false advertising?
Do you consider it to be false advertising for any manufacturer of down viewing sonar equipment, to put such incredible images on their sales info, when the reality is virtually no one can achieve anything close to that under any circumstances.
I do.

For advertising, they are going to put their best stuff up there. I'm sure everyone here with SI or DI equipment has screen shots as poor as poor can be, and some excellent ones. Lots of variables to get the best pictures. False advertising, I'd have to say no, but don't expect many of your screen shots to equal the best quality of images they show in their advertisements.

I agree Ron. If I had seen crappy pictures in the ads, I would never have bought 1 (many). Pictures are intended to be a stimulus. Worked on me anyway.

agreed, but sometimes it's ridiculous, for 277.00 I'm led to believe that I can get a high detail, black & white DI unit showing me twigs on a tree limb.

IMO the Elite 5 DSI is a perfect example. Some of the images Lowrance put out were the same ones for the HDS. I bought one in December when they were introduced and had to wait until late January to get my hands on it, what a disappointment! There is no way that unit can produce those images, in fact some of the "supposed" images were in colors not even available on the Elite 5. After many calls to Lowrance one guy finally admitted that the DSI technology and the gps in the Elite 5 was nowhere near the quality of a HDS. I've said all along we were mislead. Mine was $699, if it had been $299 I would've been more sympathetic to it's quality.

I bought a E5DSI and am not impressed. My big boat still has a 5200c global map and a 100C that wont be going anywhere soon.

Have you seen any of the pics people posted on the HB 360? If I paid 2k and got those crappy images I would be pissed.
Shoot, I'm still trying to get one of those giant sandwiches Subway advertises.

This is why I appreciate this forum. I really wanted a DI unit but after hearing all the issues I waited and got the Elite 7 DSI combo which will display both 2D and DI and Gps charts. You can overlay the 2 images or split the screen and compare the two. I am not sold yet though, because I just got it on my boat and have not had time to play with it much. I like the big screen though. I went from a 3.5 HB 385 to a 7" DSI. Big change!
I paid just over $600 from Brian at BBG Marine, one of our CDC sponsors.
